Perched on a flat shelf at the water’s edge atop a rocky bluff, this north-facing waterfront home is carefully sited to capture optimal views as the land drops away toward the sea. Nestled among fir and cedar, the design orients and sizes windows strategically—large north-facing picture glazing for the panorama, and South, East and West openings to harvest every available sunbeam. Simple, clean rooflines shed rain and salt-laden runoff efficiently; downspouts and detailing direct water away from the foundation to protect the slope below. The plan emphasizes view-rich placement: primary living, and sleeping spaces are positioned where the water view is most valuable rather than being tucked into the slope, while spatial optimization keeps a compact footprint. Durable, resilient materials throughout ensure comfort and low maintenance so the clients can fully enjoy sea life from their happy place on the bluff.
